My little cousin is what I like to call a prodigy. She’s been a violinist for the last couple of years and she is absolutely incredible. Last month for her birthday I got her a fine set of violin strings, which was exactly what she had asked for. I didn’t really want to get her a gift certificate or clothes or anything, because I know that this instrument is her passion and she loves practicing and getting better in every way possible. We’ve even gone out a couple of times to see some shows, which were absolutely incredible. I really like seeing this particular instrument performed, so I do everything I can to foster this love of hers.
The other day when I was looking at the strings I saw a flyer for a local competition. It was right in her age range and I knew that she would be able to place rather well in it, so I decided to pick her up a couple of forms. When we talked that evening I told her that I would fax them over to her so that she could sign up. As soon as she read them she realized that she would have a really good shot at winning some prize money, so she went and started practicing right after she ate dinner.
